Suspected Arms Trafficker Arrested in Zamfara with Ammunition

—

A 29-year-old man, identified as Zayyanu Abdullahi, was apprehended by security forces on Sunday while allegedly transporting ammunition along the Anka-Bagega Road in Zamfara State.

The arrest was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian troops and the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (ZSCPG), following a tip-off from local residents who had reported suspicious activities in the area.

Zagazola Makama, a well-known counter-insurgency expert and security analyst covering the Lake Chad region, shared details of the arrest on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

According to Makama, security forces had set up a snap roadblock based on the intelligence they received, which ultimately led to Abdullahi’s capture.

Abdullahi, a native of Shinkafi Local Government Area, was intercepted at the roadblock. Upon searching him, security personnel discovered 35 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition concealed in a wrapper.

The ammunition, according to preliminary investigations, was intended for delivery to an individual named Wadata in Bagega town.

Following his arrest, Abdullahi was taken into custody, and authorities are intensifying efforts to locate and apprehend Wadata, along with any other individuals who may be connected to the arms trafficking operation.

This arrest highlights ongoing security challenges in Zamfara State, where illegal arms trading and banditry have remained persistent threats.

Local residents, vigilant in reporting suspicious activities, continue to play a critical role in supporting the efforts of law enforcement and security agencies in curbing these criminal activities.
