Super Eagles Wary Of Another Costly Start As Madagascar Clash Looms

—

The Super Eagles will kick off their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Madagascar on Saturday.

Nigeria had crashed out of the 2026 World Cup after losing four points from their first two qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Chelle insists his players need to show they are ready to fight for everything now.

“We must show from Day One that we want it. We have to go for the points and not be afraid to fight for them,” he said.

The News Chronicle reports that Nigeria will play Madagascar at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before hosting Guinea Bissau in Group L on September 29.

Nigeria have a wealth of experience in their ranks, with Ola Aina set to return to the squad, while Taiwo Awoniyi is expected to add pace and power to the attack, following the suspension of Victor Osimhen.

Chelle also has the option of Maduka Okoye or Stanley Nwabali between the sticks.

They have beaten Madagascar 2-0 on two occasions in AFCON qualifiers, but the Barea defeated Nigeria 2-0 in the 2019 AFCON qualifiers.

Moses Simon could make it 100 caps for Nigeria if he is selected.
