Super Eagles Set Sights on AFCON Quarterfinals Ahead of Mozambique Clash

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have played down the bonus incentives promised to Mozambique’s players, insisting their focus remains firmly on securing a quarterfinal place at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Round of 16 encounter comes amid reports that Mozambique’s government has offered substantial rewards to motivate the Mambas, but the Nigerian camp says such moves will not alter the outcome.

Team captain Wilfred Ndidi expressed confidence after training, noting that while financial motivation is common in football, Nigeria’s objective is clear. He stressed that the players are fully committed to advancing and are approaching the match with the seriousness of a final.

The News Chronicle gathered that the news of Mozambique’s incentive package reached the Super Eagles camp late in the week but was largely brushed aside as the team intensified preparations under head coach Eric Chelle. Training sessions have focused on tactical discipline and mental sharpness as Nigeria looks to extend its strong historical record against the Mambas.

Striker Victor Osimhen echoed the team’s confidence, describing Nigeria as one of the tournament’s heavyweights and warning that the knockout stage demands maximum intensity. He added that the Super Eagles respect Mozambique’s progress but believe their quality and experience will make the difference.

Kick off is scheduled for tonight in Fes, with a place in the quarterfinals on the line.
