Super Eagles lacks true leadership - Brown Ideye

Former Super Eagles player Brown Ideye has criticized the current team for lacking genuine leadership during a conversation on X-space hosted by The Naija Football Conference.

The former West Bromwich Albion striker expressed that the current Super Eagles team lacks the passion and nationalism that characterized previous generations.

Ideye, 35, emphasized that true captaincy involves more than just wearing the armband; it requires demonstrating absolute discipline.

“A leader should be someone who has been part of the team for years. In today’s Super Eagles, we don’t have players like Enyeama and Yobo anymore,” Ideye remarked.

“Who would you consider a leader, Ekong? It’s not just about having the captain’s armband. Can Ekong effectively communicate with players like Osimhen, Chukwueze, and Lookman? No.

“I can’t see Osimhen listening to Ekong without voicing his own opinions.”

Ideye played for the Super Eagles from 2010 to 2016, contributing to Stephen Keshi’s team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored six goals in 28 appearances for the national team.

Throughout his career, Ideye has played for clubs such as West Bromwich Albion, Málaga, Olympiacos, Dynamo Kyiv, and currently Al Yarmouk in Kuwait.
