Super Eagles Close Ranks as Osimhen Lookman Tension Eases Ahead of Algeria Clash

—

The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that the disagreement between Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman has been settled, clearing the air ahead of the Super Eagles quarterfinal meeting with Algeria in Marrakech.

The clarification follows widespread attention after Osimhen confronted Lookman during Nigeria’s emphatic  4-0 victory over Mozambique in the AFCON round of 16.

The incident, which briefly disrupted the game, sparked internal discussions within the camp and across the football community.

The team officials quickly intervened to prevent the situation from escalating, opting for internal dialogue rather than public disciplinary measures.

While some members of the NFF hierarchy initially pushed for sanctions, senior officials chose a conciliatory approach to restore unity within the squad.

NFF representatives confirmed that all issues were addressed privately and the players have since recommitted themselves to the team’s shared objective of lifting the AFCON trophy.

Lookman also played down the incident, describing it as a momentary reaction that did not affect team harmony, while reaffirming his respect for Osimhen.

Nigeria will travel to Marrakech to begin preparations for Saturday’s quarterfinal showdown against Algeria, who edged DR Congo after extra time.

The squad is reported to be in high spirits, with Akor Adams already rejoining camp after a brief family visit, and only Ryan Alebiosu continuing injury recovery.

With focus restored, the Super Eagles head into the last eight determined to keep their title dream alive.
