Student Takes Own Life Following Breakup in Adamawa

—

In a tragic incident, a female student named Jamima Shetima Balami has reportedly taken her own life by consuming what is believed to be rat poison in Adamawa State.

Jamima, a National Diploma II student in the Department of Mass Communication at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi, was undergoing Industrial Training (IT) at Adamawa Television (ATV), Yola at the time of her unfortunate demise.

The 24-year-old, who hailed from Garkida Gombi, met her untimely end at her residence in Vinikilang, commonly known as Hayin Gada in the Girei local government area of the state.

Being the only daughter of her father, this loss adds a poignant layer to the already heartbreaking situation.

Reports suggest that Jamima took this drastic step after her boyfriend, allegedly a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU), asked her to terminate their relationship.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the father of the deceased reported the matter to the police.

Adding complexity to the situation, there are two versions of events surrounding Jamima’s tragic end. One account from her father asserts that she took her own life by ingesting a toxic substance.

The other version suggests that she visited her boyfriend, a lecturer at Modibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola, and upon being instructed to end their relationship, she, distraught by the news, resorted to consuming poison.

SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the PPRO, assured the public that the police are actively investigating the case.

The intricate nature of the incident demands a thorough examination to determine the actual cause of Jamima’s death.

As the investigation unfolds, the authorities pledge to disclose the findings to the public, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
