Stakeholders Demand Regulation Of Religious Preaching in Bauchi

—

At the Bauchi Peace Summit, attendees emphasized the importance of the state government taking measures to oversee the actions of preachers and religious leaders.

This recommendation aims to foster greater unity and understanding among followers of different faiths within the region, promoting a more harmonious coexistence.

Professor Hassan Singhry Barayi from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University emphasized the necessity of implementing a mechanism ensuring preachers meet specific requirements before sharing their beliefs, aiming to promote not only peaceful coexistence but also deepen religious tolerance in society.

Barayi highlighted the importance of closely monitoring preachers to ensure decency in their religious activities, contributing to the reduction of religious disharmony and other negative trends.

He commended the peace summit and suggested that the state government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, declare a day for prayer to foster peace across the state and the entire nation.

The convener, Mr. Paul Daniel, mentioned that the Peace Ambassadors have been consistently promoting interfaith dialogue, providing entrepreneurship training for the youth, organizing inter-primary school peace quizzes, and engaging with the media.

He stressed the need for peace initiatives to extend to all 20 local government areas in the state.

Discussants at the summit, including Imam Hassan Usman Zango, Elder Emmanuel Usman Durkwa, and Malam Adamu Abubakar Jahun, extensively discussed the significance of peace and harmony in society.

They made a heartfelt plea to the citizens, urging them to actively nurture an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence.

The emphasis was on the significant role this plays in contributing to the construction of a robust and unified nation, highlighting the shared responsibility each individual holds in fostering a harmonious society.
