Speed Darlington Released on Bail After Arrest Over Burna Boy’s Complaint

—

Controversial media personality Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has been released from police custody after meeting his bail conditions on Tuesday.

This update was shared by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju on his X page (formerly Twitter).

Darlington had been arrested last Friday in Lagos and was later transferred to Abuja. His arrest followed a formal complaint by music star Burna Boy, who accused Darlington of defamation and cyberstalking.

The controversy began after Darlington posted a viral video where he questioned how Burna Boy won a Grammy for his album Twice As Tall. In the video, he suggested Burna Boy’s win might be linked to his association with embattled U.S. rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently facing serious allegations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

After making these remarks, Darlington was quietly taken into custody by the police.

Adeyanju thanked everyone who helped secure Darlington’s release and praised the professionalism of the police officers involved.

He specifically appreciated Yele Sowore, senior lawyer Stan Alieke, and Nigerians who spoke up in support of Darlington. He also acknowledged Prof. Sanusi and the IRT team for their professionalism throughout the case.
