South Korea’s First Administrative Robot Commits Suicide

—

In a surprising and unusual incident, South Korea’s first administrative officer robot, employed at the Gumi City Council, was found defunct after reportedly descending a staircase in a manner akin to throwing itself down.
The incident, which occurred recently, has left many baffled as investigations into the exact cause are ongoing.
The robot, which had been seen “circling in one spot” shortly before the fall, played a vital role at the council.
It was responsible for assisting with document deliveries, promoting city activities, and disseminating information.
Appointed in August 2023 and manufactured by Bear Robotics, this robotic officer was notable for its advanced capabilities, including the use of an elevator.
Local media has been abuzz with speculation, with some even suggesting the possibility of “robot suicide,” although this remains conjecture pending the outcome of the investigation.
The robot was considered a diligent and integral part of the city hall staff, contributing significantly to the council’s operations.
Despite South Korea’s high robot density—the highest in the world—the Gumi City Council has announced that there are currently no plans to replace the fallen robot with another.
