SON, NiNAS Partner to Boost Nigeria’s Quality and Standards System

Nigeria has taken another step toward improving product standards and global competitiveness following a new partnership between the Standards Organisation of Nigeria and the Nigeria National Accreditation System. Both agencies officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening the country’s quality infrastructure and conformity assessment processes.

The News Chronicle reports that the deal came after strategic meetings between SON Director General Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke and NiNAS Director General Celestine Okanya together with high-ranking officials from both organizations. The partnership is projected to enhance cooperation in technical development, quality assurance, accreditation assistance and capacity building throughout key economic sectors.

The new system will see both firms working together to advance universally acknowledged norms and increase global market confidence in Nigerian products and services. As Nigeria strives for greater economic diversification, the cooperation is meant to foster industrial development, consumer protection, and export competitiveness.

Though their responsibilities vary, officials from both organizations underlined that they are complementary in creating a more dependable national quality system. Additionally, they underlined their will to keep transparency, independence, and international best standards in accordance with world accreditation requirements.

By raising adherence to international quality standards, industry observers expect the expansion to support the growth of Nigeria’s manufacturing and export industries.
