The noise is too loud, the shrieking sound of the pitched voices of the poor hungry masses on the street very deafening. Everybody is in a rat race of survival. The hunger is biting and the desire for the blood and flesh of others for survival, an obsession for some.
The waist for the previously plumb and chubby, too slippery to either hold any cloth or remain fitted in it. Things have indeed fallen apart and the dreams for hope renewed, becoming hopeless and a mirage. The noise is too much. Even the silence of those whose strength to shout was whittled already by hunger, still deafening.
This is not the time to join in this unending shout of frustration, disenchantment and disgust. At best, one gets disillusioned, clobbered Into depression and hopelessness with nothing to show for, but the rise of one’s blood pressure.
In this situation, as awry and abysmal it may look, a pill of Solitude may help reset one’s mind to think straight for a while.
A pill of solicitude to remain with oneself and think things through is important. It isn’t loneliness! It isn’t depression! It is rather a deliberate decision to move away from the noise and distraction of bad government, gory details of the social media, the mad rush of fuel scarcity, the bickering and war of family issues into the realm of self-absorption, where thinking straight is assured and chances of pulling through from the maze of life through musings, a possibility
Solitude is when one spends time alone and enjoys one’s own company. It’s a peaceful state where one relaxes, reflects and recharges without the distractions or influence of others.
Solitude can be a time for self-discovery, introspection, and personal growth. It allows one to focus on one’s thoughts, feelings, and desires, fostering a deeper connection with yourself.
The pill of solitude once in a while can help one find inner peace, clarity, and a sense of calm in a busy and chaotic world like ours.
Take the statistics of those that actually pulled through amazing innovations, innovations that have awed humanity both in technology and literature, there is one thread that runs through them— Solitude!!
Philosophers like Socrates, who often retreated into contemplation and self-reflection; Friedrich Nietzsche, who spent long periods in isolation to work on his philosophical ideas; and Henry David Thoreau, who wrote about his experiences living alone in nature in his work “Walden.” found solitude to be essential for deep thinking, creativity, and philosophical exploration.
Isaac Newton, spent long hours in isolation to focus on his scientific discoveries and theories; Nikola Tesla, was a recluse and preferred working alone in his lab; Marie Curie, dedicated much of her time to her research and experiments, often working in solitude to make groundbreaking discoveries in the field of radioactivity.
The truth is, nothing serious comes from the brain of any soul that has no obsession for solitude. Nigeria and Nigerians are the way we are because of our pathological craving for empty noise of social activities and conviviality, with a zero interest for solitude.
Religious or spiritual powers of course can’t be attained without pills of solitude.
This is about time for Nigerians to take the pill of solitude and for once remain sober, calculative and think outside the box. This our sanguine disposition of smiling and suffering, suffering and smiling isn’t helping one bit.
Is Nigeria in a solitude mood? Has Nigeria ever been in that mood of sitting to reflect on what the future holds? Nigeria has never been off the hook and stronghold of consumption, a mood that tickles emotions only, without tasking the brain.
Until we move from this spree of sharing spoils from government coffers, a system that sustains the greed of many leaders against production, where brains are tasked through critical thinking and musing, producing nothing but technological Innovation; Nigeria would be far-flung from this pill of solicitude; if you ask me, the bridge between consumption and production.
It is however good to go to a place of mourning than to a place of merriment. Solitude is better, sometimes. It helps reduce the level of one’s emotional tickling and pushes one to a place of pensive mood where musings well up.
Nigeria and Nigerians are presently in the place and space where solitude should reign supreme. How this season is used, determines how far or otherwise we can go as a nation after this harrowing phase. What happens to us isn’t as important as how we react to it.
“No man should go through life without once experiencing healthy, even bored solitude in the wilderness, finding himself depending solely on himself and thereby learning his true and hidden strength.”
― Jack Kerouac
American novelist
“In the silence, we listen to ourselves. Then we ask questions of ourselves. We describe ourselves, and in the quietude, we may even hear the voice of God.”
― Maya Angelo
American poet
“The best thinking has been done in solitude.”
― Thomas A. Edison
American inventor
The above quotes help to firm that there is power in solitude. Seek once in a while this mood, one can’t always be a sanguine, flying around like a drunk butterfly.
