Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison have uncovered and destroyed two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along the Gwoza-Wala Road in Borno State, preventing what security sources described as a potential attack on motorists and security personnel.
The discovery was made at about 8:50 a.m. on August 2 during routine clearance operations between the Golf Bravo and Papa 2 locations along the road.
The development was disclosed by security analyst in a post on X, citing military sources.
According to the sources, troops immediately secured the area after detecting the suspicious devices before an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was deployed to the scene.
The EOD specialists successfully recovered the explosives and carried out a controlled in-situ detonation, safely destroying both IEDs without any casualties or damage.
Military sources said the operation thwarted a potential attack targeting security personnel and civilian road users.
They added that clearance and route-sanitisation operations are continuing across the North-East to prevent terrorists from planting explosive devices along major supply and transportation routes.
