Sokoto State University (SSU) and Cape Coast Technical University Ghana (CCTU) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting academic advancement and collaboration between the two institutions.
According to a statement released by SSU’s information officer, Zayyanu Shehu, on Wednesday, the signing ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the SSU Senate Chamber.
The MoU outlines a framework for various collaborative initiatives, including staff exchange, research collaborations, innovation projects, and student exchange programmes.
The statement emphasized that the implementation of these programmes would commence upon the completion of all necessary regulatory requirements as stipulated by the National Universities Commission.
Prof. Bashir Garba, the Vice-Chancellor of SSU, expressed his optimism about the partnership, highlighting its potential to foster innovative education, technological development, and economic advancement.
He recalled a similar MoU signed during his tenure as Rector of the Polytechnic of Sokoto State, which significantly contributed to manpower development and internally generated revenue.
Prof. Garba further mentioned that the university has constructed and furnished new Faculties of Engineering and Agriculture.
The university is prepared to launch degree programmes in these fields once they receive approval from the Sokoto state government and the National Universities Commission.
Prof. Kwaku Adutwum Ayim Boakye, the Vice-Chancellor of Cape Coast Technical University Ghana, stressed the importance of the nationalisation of knowledge and expressed his institution’s readiness to share knowledge, research outcomes, and innovations with SSU.
He highlighted CCTU’s 40 years of establishment and its transition from a polytechnic to a full-fledged university offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
During the pre-signing discussions, members of both universities deliberated on the specifics of the collaboration, aiming to make it vibrant and result-oriented for the benefit of both institutions and society at large.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by several prominent SSU staff members, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Attahiru Ahmad Sifawa; the representative of the Registrar, Mal. Inuwa Garba Muhammad; the Bursar, Alh. Muhammad Sahabi Tambuwal; the University Librarian, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Maidamma Furfuri; and various Deans and Directors.
Prof. Boakye was accompanied by Prof. Laurence Atepor, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Emmanuel Bamfo Agyei, the Director of Research Development and Postgraduate School.
