A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bode George has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to cut down the pump price of petrol to N300 per liter.

While stressing the need for the president to reduce the pump price of fuel from the middle of December to the end of January, the former Deputy National Chairman of PDP added that such gesture would enable Nigerians to celebrate the festive season.

Addressing a press conference in Lagos on Wednesday, Dec 11, George said it’s time for Tinubu to give back to Nigerians.

“There are two months in any calendar year that are very important months. Whether you are a Christian, a Muslim, an atheist, or a traditionalist, it is common and it is all over the world.

“The months of December and January are the most important months.

“From the middle of December, at least to the end of January, the cost of petrol should be reduced to N300 per litre. The government can absorb the losses.” He emphasized further.

He noted that carrying out such measures would make Nigerians happy this season.

George said if the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu could donate N1 billion to a university, she could contribute to bear the cost.

He continued: “With this, you will be sending a lot of messages of happiness across the tribes and homes. Everybody in Nigeria will be happy because it will positively impact this period of the year.

“It is a challenge and he can do it. If Madam First Lady could donate N1 billion to a university, she could also donate into the coffers to bear this cost. What’s wrong? So that everybody will be able to sleep well with N300 per litre across the board.

“So by the end of January, in the meantime, the prayers, the happiness, the impact of that will drive people up. And the Almighty God will answer our prayers. We need in this December and January to put a smile on the faces of people.”

This appeal by the elder statesman comes amid remarks by Nigeria’s petroleum marketers that the price of fuel may reduce to either N900 or 1000 per litre during this Yuletide season.

The President of the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association, PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry, and the Spokesperson of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Chinedu Ukadike, disclosed this on Monday.
