Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have uncovered a cache of military-grade ammunition concealed inside bags of cassava flakes, popularly known as garri, during an anti narcotics operation.
The agency also intercepted thousands of pills of tramadol 225mg hidden inside a keg of red oil in a separate operation, raising fresh concerns over evolving smuggling tactics and threats to national security.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said officers often stumble on dangerous items beyond illicit drugs while carrying out searches.
“In the course of our work searching for illicit drug concealment, we also stumble on other items that constitute threats to national security as it happened in the attached videos,” Babafemi said.
He explained that in one instance, NDLEA officers discovered a large cache of military-grade ammunition hidden inside garri, while another operation led to the seizure of thousands of tramadol pills concealed in a keg of red oil.
“The things we see in the line of duty,” he added.
The discoveries highlight the increasingly sophisticated methods used by criminal networks to conceal contraband and dangerous items across the country.
