Shehu of Borno Decries Worsening Insecurity, Delayed Alau Dam Rehabilitation

For the first time, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garba Elkanemi, has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Borno State and other parts of Nigeria, warning that the rising insecurity continues to threaten lives, livelihoods, and national stability.
The traditional ruler lamented that the security challenges have persisted despite ongoing efforts, calling for urgent and more coordinated action from relevant authorities to restore peace and protect affected communities.
He also expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as the federal government’s neglect of key development projects in the state.
He specifically highlighted the delayed rehabilitation of the Alau Dam and the lack of progress in solid mineral exploration activities, which he said are critical to the socio-economic development of Borno State.
According to him, the abandonment of such projects has further worsened hardship among residents, particularly in areas of water supply and economic opportunities.
The Shehu urged the federal government to prioritize both security intervention and infrastructure development in order to address the growing challenges and improve the well-being of citizens in Borno and other affected regions.
