Chairman of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving a salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing the move as a significant boost to the welfare of troops.
Kalu, who represents Abia North Senatorial District, said the decision demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to recognising the sacrifices made by military personnel in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and tackling insecurity.
In a statement shared on his official social media platforms on Wednesday, the former Abia State governor said improving the welfare of members of the Armed Forces should remain a national priority, given their role in combating terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other security threats.
Kalu described the approval as a clear indication that the administration recognizes the importance of adequately rewarding those responsible for protecting the nation.

“The decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve a salary increase for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces deserves commendation. It reflects an understanding that the welfare of those who defend our nation should remain a priority.
“As this important gesture is being implemented, I encourage our military and other security agencies to continue to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving Nigerians with courage, professionalism, fairness and respect for human dignity,” Kalu said.

According to him, national security remains the bedrock of economic growth, national unity, and sustainable development. He expressed optimism that the improved welfare package would enhance the morale, motivation, and operational effectiveness of military personnel.
“A secure nation is the foundation of economic growth, national unity and sustainable development. With improved welfare, renewed commitment and the support of all Nigerians, I believe we can continue to make meaningful progress in securing our country,” he added.
Kalu also reaffirmed his support for policies and initiatives aimed at improving the welfare, capacity, and operational readiness of Nigeria’s security personnel, while praying for lasting peace, stability, and progress across the country.
