Senate calls for Wike and CP to address FCT killings, kidnappings

The Senate called for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igwe, to come and talk to them about the increased violence in the area.

This happened because Senator Ned Nwoko, from Delta North, said his senior aide, Barrister Chris Agidy, was kidnapped and killed in Galadimawa last year.

Wike and Igwe have to go to the Senate at a later date, which will be arranged by the Senate Clerk, Chinedu Akubueze.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, said they will meet behind closed doors. They want to know what plans Wike and Igwe have to stop the kidnappings in the FCT.

Akpabio said, “We want to hear from them about what they are doing to stop the kidnappings in the FCT. The kidnapping of Senator Nwoko’s aide and other people in the FCT worries us and needs to be stopped not just in the FCT but in Nigeria as a whole.”

The Senate also agreed on other things after talking a lot about Senator Nwoko’s motion. They want the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to increase security patrols and surveillance in Abuja and the whole country to stop kidnappings.

They also want CCTV cameras in important places in Abuja and a three-digit number for emergencies.

The Senate asked the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) to make sure this emergency number works well for quick security help.
