The upper legislative chamber initiated this important process following a motion presented by Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Leader, during its session on Thursday.
The announcement of the appointments of Musa Aliyu as ICPC Chairman and Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as the Secretary of the Commission was made by Ajuri Ngelale, the Presidential Spokesperson, on October 17.
These appointments were made in response to the retirement leave of the outgoing ICPC Chairman, Bolaji Owasanoye.
On Wednesday, President Tinubu formally submitted a request to the Senate, asking for their confirmation of Musa Aliyu as the substantive Chairman of the ICPC.
This request was grounded in section 3(6) of the ICPC Act, and President Tinubu stated, “In compliance with section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Commission (ICPC) Establishment Act 2000, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Mr. Musa Adamu Aliyu as Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).”
Notably, Mr. Musa Adamu Aliyu currently serves as the Attorney-General of Jigawa State.
