Security Forces Bolster Presence in Abuja as Hunger Protest Reaches Peak

—

Hundreds of Nigeria Police Force operatives have been deployed across key flashpoints in Abuja as the ongoing Hunger Protest reaches its climax today, Saturday.

In response to the escalating demonstrations, security forces, including the police and other operatives, heightened their surveillance efforts across the nation’s capital on Friday evening.
Strategic entry points to significant government locations, such as Eagle Square, the Federal Secretariat, the National Assembly Complex, the Supreme Court, and the Presidential Villa all situated around the Three Arms Zone have been fortified with multiple security checkpoints.
This increased security presence extends to major roads leading to the MKO Abiola Stadium, the venue initially designated for the protests, which have been labeled under the banner #EndBadGovernance.
On Friday, the protest organizers reiterated their commitment to conducting a one-million-man march in all 36 states of the country, as well as in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, marking the peak of their demonstrations.
The protests, which began last Thursday, have largely been fueled by demands for the reinstatement of the fuel subsidy, among other grievances.
Unfortunately, the demonstrations have turned violent in several states, including Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Niger, Jigawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, and Borno.
The unrest has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals, numerous injuries, and significant property damage.
As the protests continue to unfold, the situation remains tense, with the heightened security presence reflecting the government’s concern over maintaining order and preventing further violence.
