Scores Abducted In Lafia Attack

Barely three weeks after an attack that claimed a life in Gandu Community, Lafia, Nasarawa State, heightened tension was reported in the area on November 27, 2023, when gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the area and abducted scores of residents.

Sources confirmed the attack, which happened at about 7 p.m. on Monday, left several other individuals with varying degrees of injuries, currently being attended to at a health facility.

Gandu Community houses most students of the Federal University Lafia, with a significant number of indigenes.

A statement by Governor Abdullahi A. Sule’s spokesperson, Emmanuel Innocent Akwe, had earlier mentioned that the state government is making frantic efforts to address the incidents around the campuses of the Federal institution. Security posts and vehicles will be made available to the Nigerian Police as part of plans to strengthen security in the area.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, while hosting the state Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, revealed various security measures put in place by the University to ensure the safety of staff and students. These measures include the establishment of a security committee and a students’ welfare committee.
