Saudi Arabia Ranks Second in Global Tech Index Among G20 Countries

Saudi Arabia has achieved a remarkable feat, securing the second spot in the 2023 International Telecommunication Union (ITU) index among G20 nations.

This index measures a country’s advancement in technology, and Saudi Arabia earned an impressive score of 94.9 points, positioning itself as a potential technology hub, alluring foreign talent.

The ITU’s ICT Development Index assesses 169 economies based on factors like quality infrastructure and accessible internet for everyone.

Saudi Arabia surpassed several G20 peers, including the UK and Japan, scoring higher than the global average of 72.8.

However, the United States claimed the top position with 96.6 points.

Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space, and Technology Commission emphasized the nation’s dedication to enhancing ICT infrastructure and services.

Their goal is to stimulate economic growth and create more opportunities, showcasing the largest and rapidly growing ICT market in the Middle East and North Africa.

The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) highlighted Saudi Arabia’s robust ICT infrastructure, providing affordable and reliable services.

This contributes significantly to the development of the national digital economy, attracting investments, and expanding the Saudi ICT market.

CITC also underlined that Saudi Arabia’s progress is aligned with Vision 2030.

This vision aims to establish the country as a prominent technology hub, achieving a remarkable 99% internet penetration rate.

Additionally, they plan to invest SR93 billion ($24.79 billion) in the sector over six years, bolstered by the National Strategy for Digital Transformation initiated in 2016.
