Former Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has thrown his weight behind Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or ambitions, insisting the England captain has combined outstanding performances with a refreshing sense of humility.
Rummenigge, a two-time Ballon d’Or winner, said he could appreciate the significance of the prestigious individual honour to Kane, who has enjoyed an impressive spell with Bayern Munich and the England national team.
“I was fortunate enough to win the Ballon d’Or twice myself, so I can perhaps imagine how much it would mean to Harry to receive the award,” Rummenigge said in a message to the striker ahead of the ceremony.
The former Bayern executive pointed to Kane’s remarkable scoring record as a major argument in his favour, highlighting his 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country, alongside the Golden Shoe and the trophies he has won.
Beyond his statistics and achievements, Rummenigge praised the striker’s attitude, describing him as a hardworking team player who has remained grounded despite his success.
“Despite all his success, he has retained a wonderful and refreshing sense of normality. He is hardworking, works for the team,” he added.
Rummenigge also noted that Kane’s approach to the game demonstrates that a footballer can rank among the world’s elite without constantly seeking the spotlight.
“Harry Kane shows that you can be one of the BEST PLAYERS in the world without constantly putting yourself at the centre of attention,” he said.
The endorsement adds to the recognition of Kane’s performances for Bayern, where his goalscoring consistency has established him as one of the leading forwards in world football. Whether he claims the Ballon d’Or remains to be seen, but Rummenigge believes his numbers, team achievements and humility make a compelling case for the England captain.
