Rotary Club Plants 100 Trees in Jos to Combat Climate Change

The Rotary Club of Jos-Utan has planted 100 trees at St. Augustine’s Major Seminary in Jos as part of efforts to restore the environment, combat climate change, and promote sustainable living.

Speaking during the exercise on Thursday, the club’s President, Mrs. Grace Aniah, said the initiative was part of Rotary’s environmental stewardship program, aimed at mitigating the effects of global warming and encouraging greener, more sustainable practices.

Aniah said the project was designed to promote afforestation, improve biodiversity, and inspire communities, schools, and institutions to embrace tree planting as a shared responsibility.

She noted that Rotary remained committed to environmental sustainability through projects that address climate challenges and build healthier, more resilient communities.

“Every tree planted contributes to cleaner air, healthier ecosystems, and a safer environment for future generations,” she said.

The Rector of St. Augustine’s Major Seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Hassan, praised the initiative, describing tree planting as one of the most practical and effective ways to restore the environment.

Represented by Rev. Fr. Mugaga David, Hassan warned that environmental degradation poses a growing threat to humanity and urged organizations and individuals to emulate Rotary by supporting initiatives that protect the environment.

He added that tree planting remains one of the simplest yet most impactful strategies for tackling climate change, conserving biodiversity, and safeguarding the planet for future generations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project, themed “Impacting the Environment, Sustaining Lives,” is part of Rotary’s broader environmental initiatives, which focus on supporting the environment.
