Birmingham hired Tony Mowbray on Monday 8 January 2024 as its new manager to take over from Wayne Rooney who was earlier sacked.

The Former Sunderland and West Brom boss Mowbray nodded to a two-and-half-year deal with the Championship strugglers.

Mowbray is Birmingham’s third manager this season after the dismissals of John Eustace and Rooney.

Mowbray who expressed excitement in joining Birmingham at such a time said that he cannot wait to get back on the training pitch and start working with the club.

“I know from personal experience how passionate Bluenoses are, home and away, and I’m looking forward to having their full support for the team starting on Saturday at home to Swansea.” He Added.

Despite guiding them to the play-offs last season, the new Birmingham was sacked by Sunderland last December after 15 months of being a manager.

Having replaced Eustace in October, former Manchester United and England star Rooney was shown the exit door by Birmingham after just 83 days in charge.

The former Manchester United player managed just two wins in 15 games as Birmingham fell from sixth to 20th position in the Championship.
