Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has launched a scathing attack on the club’s players, accusing them of putting personal interests ahead of the team amid the club’s struggles.
Rooney did not mince words in his assessment of the situation at Old Trafford, claiming that some players lack the commitment and unity required to help the club overcome its difficulties.
In comments shared on Facebook by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the former United captain accused the players of showing little concern for their teammates, manager, backroom staff and supporters.
“These players, they’re SELFISH. They care about themselves; they DON’T CARE about their teammates, the manager, the staff or the fans,” Rooney said.
The former England international also criticised Bruno Fernandes, suggesting that the midfielder is experiencing his poorest run of form since joining United. Rooney further questioned Fernandes’ response to the situation, claiming that the Portuguese star was putting pressure on others rather than accepting responsibility for his performances.
“Bruno, he’s probably having the WORST RUN of form he’s had since he’s been at the club, and again, it’s no coincidence he’s putting pressure on someone else because he doesn’t want to face it,” he added.
Rooney’s criticism became even more pointed when he compared the players to children, expressing frustration with what he perceives as a lack of maturity and accountability within the squad.
“They’re like BABIES,” he said.
The explosive remarks from the former United striker add to the growing scrutiny surrounding the club, with questions continuing to emerge over the players’ mentality, collective responsibility and ability to meet the expectations associated with one of English football’s biggest teams.
