35-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz
has been formally charged after allegedly opening fire at the home of singer Rihanna and rapper A$AP Rocky in Beverly Hills, near Los Angeles, authorities said.
Prosecutors said Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, originally from Orlando, Florida, is facing 14 felony charges, including:
1 count of attempted murder
10 counts of assault on a person with a semiautomatic firearm
3 counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling
(some reports list two counts of shooting at a dwelling and one count of shooting at an inhabited vehicle)
Authorities said she allegedly fired about 10 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle into the luxury property.
If convicted on all counts, prosecutors say she could face life in prison.
Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman confirmed that the shooting occurred while Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, their three children, and Rihanna’s mother were inside the house.
No injuries were reported.
Ortiz is currently being held in custody with bail set between about $1.8 million and $10.2 million depending on the charge filings, and she has been ordered to have no contact with Rihanna.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for March 25.
The incident happened Sunday afternoon, around past 1pm. Ivanna allegedly fired multiple shots toward the estate from a vehicle with bullet holes later seen in the gate and walls of the property. Police say the motive remains unclear.
Online posts linked to Ortiz suggested she had previously posted videos about Rihanna and other celebrities, claiming the singer was targeting her.
Reports also say she had previous legal and mental health issues, including being involuntarily committed in the past.
A video circulating on social media showed Rihanna briefly greeting fans outside her home a few days after the shooting.
According to fans who shared the clip, she smiled, waved, and spoke briefly from behind the door. She then returned inside the property.
One fan wrote online that she seemed relaxed and friendly despite the frightening incident.
However, reports say her team has since tightened security and reviewed her public schedule.
Photographs taken the day after the attack show that Rihanna left Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
Reports say her luggage was loaded into vehicles, the convoy drove to Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles, where she boarded a private flight and departed the city
Her destination has not been publicly confirmed.
Authorities describe Ivanna Lisette Ortiz as a 35-year-old woman from Florida who has worked as a licensed speech pathologist for more than a decade. Ivanna has previous arrests in Florida and reportedly lost custody of a child.
Investigators say there is no known personal connection between her and Rihanna. Ortiz remains in custody awaiting her March 25 court appearance. Security around the singer has been increased and some of her public plans have reportedly been rescheduled.
