Ribadu reports a decrease in terrorism-related deaths from 2,600 to 200

According to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the number of people dying because of terrorism in Nigeria has gone down a lot.
Before, about 2,600 people were dying every month because of terrorism, but now it’s less than 200.
Ribadu talked about this at a meeting in Abuja where people were discussing how to stop terrorism in Africa.
He said that President Bola Tinubu’s government has been working hard to make things safer.
Because of their efforts, it’s much harder to get AK-47 guns. These guns used to be sold for less than half a million naira, but now they cost over five million.
“We are working and I think we have done fairly well. One of the things that we have seen as an indication that things are beginning to look different for example, is AK 47 that used to be sold for less than N500,000 last year but now goes for N5 million.”
He also said that they’re not just taking these guns away, they’re destroying them so they can’t be used again.
“This means it is not available and we are mopping them up, we are taking them out, we are destroying them. We do not just take but we destroy,”
Ribadu thanked the armed forces, the police, and the governors for working hard to keep people safe.
“A lot of this work is ongoing, but people don’t really see, we salute our armed forces, our security forces, our governors who are doing extremely well.”
He said that even though a lot of this work is happening behind the scenes, it’s making a big difference.
