The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is set to convene a two-day National Security Summit in Abuja from June 18 to 19, 2026, aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between the media and security agencies in promoting national stability, peace, and development.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Abimbola Oyetunde, the summit is themed “Media and Security Agencies as Partners in Nation Building.”
The statement noted that the gathering will provide a platform for dialogue on enhancing cooperation between journalists and security operatives in areas such as crisis communication, information management, and building public trust in national institutions.
The summit is expected to attract senior government officials, heads of security agencies, media executives, editors, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders from across the country.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, are expected to attend as Special Guests of Honour.
Also, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, will deliver the keynote address, while the National President of the NUJ, Alhassan Yahya, will serve as host. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, will chair the event.
Key issues slated for discussion include responsible reporting of security operations, access to credible information, protection of journalists covering security matters, management of sensitive information, and strategies for combating misinformation, propaganda, and hate speech.
The summit will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions, experience-sharing by frontline reporters, and interactive engagements with security chiefs.
Organisers disclosed that the event will conclude with the adoption of a communiqué and an action framework to guide future engagement between the media and security institutions in Nigeria.
