Chairman of Enyimba FC, Nwankwo Kanu, has urged his players to approach the upcoming Eko International Preseason Cup with winning mentality and restore the Aba giants’ dominance in Nigerian and African football.
This charge was delivered in a statement issued by the club’s media officer, Samson Orji, in Aba on Wednesday, ahead of the Lagos-based tournament scheduled to begin on July 6, 2025, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
Kanu, a former Super Eagles captain and Arsenal legend, challenged the players to go beyond mere participation and strive for victory, reminding them of the club’s proud legacy.
“We narrowly missed out on the continental slot last season, but this is a fresh chance to deliver happiness to our fans.
Another season with fresh opportunity to reclaim our rightful place, not just in Nigeria league but across Africa. Enyimba FC’s mission for the upcoming season is clear: win the NPFL, dominate Africa again and restore the blue pride of Aba,” he said.
He emphasized that professionalism must guide the team’s conduct on and off the pitch, urging the players to use the tournament to build confidence, sharpen team cohesion, and integrate new signings into the squad.
According to him, the Eko International Preseason Cup presents a valuable platform for clubs to assess their readiness, experiment with tactics, and prepare for the challenges of the new league season.
The Eko International Preseason Cup is an elite regional tournament, attracting clubs from across West and Southern Africa. Among the teams confirmed for this year’s edition are Shooting Stars Sporting Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Remo Stars FC, and Ikorodu City FC—all from Nigeria.
Also joining the fray are Accra Hearts of Oak from Ghana, SuperSport United of South Africa, and Kalon Stars FC of Sierra Leone.
