The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) group chief executive officer, Mele Kyari, has been threatened with removal by the House of Representatives if purported efforts to damage the Dangote Refinery are not stopped right now.
The House’s deputy spokesperson, Philip Agbese, made this statement on Saturday while speaking to reporters in Abuja.
This comes after the House had earlier demanded that Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of NMDPRA, be fired. Agbese said that attempts were being made to destroy the Dangote Refinery by the NMDPRA and NNPCL.
He brought up the fact that many Nigerians had cancelled an intended demonstration against economic hardship on the condition that Kyari be removed in order to maintain the refinery’s seamless operation.
Plans to look into the continuing dispute between the NMDPRA and the Dangote Refinery have also been completed by the House.
“We have observed numerous demarketing campaigns aimed at discrediting the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which has caused widespread concern in the country,” Agbese commented.
“The House has already directed the President to remove the NMDPRA CEO. Should attempts to undermine this national asset continue, the House of Representatives will not think twice about demanding Mele Kyari’s removal.”
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, had earlier taken a team to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Company located in Lagos. Abbas stressed that the visit offered vital information that will guide the House’s legislative deliberations and activities.
Additionally, he reaffirmed the House’s dedication to creating a business-friendly atmosphere that will draw both domestic and foreign businesses to Nigeria.
