The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, will host a town hall meeting at the National Assembly on Wednesday.
This event aims to engage various Nigerian youth groups and organizations in a discussion about their concerns and aspirations.
The town hall meeting coincides with a 10-day nationwide protest initiated by different interest groups, scheduled to occur from August 1 to August 10, 2024.
The timing underscores the significance of the dialogue between the Speaker and the youth during a period of heightened civic activity.
According to a statement released by the Speaker’s Media Office on Sunday, the town hall is part of the Legislative Agenda of the 10th House.
This agenda emphasizes the importance of sustained youth engagement and the implementation of legislative measures to enhance youth political participation, representation, and inclusion in governance and decision-making processes.
The event is organized in collaboration with YIAGA Africa and the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS).
It aims to bring together youth leaders and representatives from various youth organizations, students from tertiary institutions, young professionals and entrepreneurs, and representatives from civil society organizations focused on youth development.
Additionally, members of the House Committees on Youth Affairs and Youths in Parliament are expected to attend.
The town hall meeting represents a crucial opportunity for Nigerian youth to voice their opinions and engage directly with legislative leaders, reflecting a commitment to fostering a more inclusive and participatory political environment.
