Reps Demand Urgent Diplomatic Action as Goodluck Jonathan Remains Stranded After Guinea-Bissau Coup

The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to activate all diplomatic channels to secure the immediate and safe return of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was reportedly stranded in Guinea-Bissau following a military coup.

The resolution was passed after House Leader Julius Ihonvbere raised a matter of urgent public importance, drawing attention to Jonathan’s predicament during an election monitoring mission.

Jonathan, a frequent envoy for regional and international organisations, was in the country to observe elections when the coup erupted.

Supporting the motion, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda emphasized that while Jonathan’s safety is paramount, the wellbeing of every Nigerian abroad must receive equal priority.

The House unanimously adopted the motion, urging the Federal Government to intensify diplomatic efforts and ensure the former president’s swift return.
