Remo Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors Exited CAF Tournament in the Preliminary Round

—

The defeat Remo Stars of Nigeria suffered in Morocco means that the Ikenne-based club has been eliminated from the CAF Champions League at the preliminary round.

Only Enugu Rangers, among the Nigerian representative clubs, have qualified for the next round.

Remo’s 1-0 victory in Nigeria wasn’t enough to guide them through to the next round after their 2-0 defeat in Morocco to AS ASFAR last night, ending both ties at a 2-1 aggregate.

El-Kanemi Warriors of Borno were also knocked out of the CAF tournament after being beaten by Dadje FC of Benin Republic days ago.

The Warriors came from behind to manage a draw at Ikenne Stadium, Ogun State but then suffered a 2-1 defeat to their opponents away from home.

Nigerian clubs have continued to struggle since 2004 when Enyimba FC became the last club from the country to win the CAF Champions League. The People’s Elephant won the CAF Champions League in 2003 and defended the title the next season. As the most successful club in Nigeria, they also went on to win the CAF Super Cup in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
