Former senator representing Kaduna central, Shehu Sani, has said that the National Anthem Bill recently passed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tiunubu is a misplaced priority.

Speaking on Channels Tv on Thursday 30th May, the Human Right Activist emphasized that at a point the nation is grappling with security challenges and economic hardship, returning Nigeria to a National Anthem orchestrated by the colonial masters was unnecessary.

The former lawmaker who decried the level at which the bill received accelerated passaged, also stated that the National Assembly ought to have prioritized other bills that have direct bearing on the suffering masses.

He stated that in the event the new National Anthem was needed, proper consultation and public hearing should have been carried out to get the reactions and contributions of Nigerians on the bill before its passage into law.

On his part, the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, who stated that the reintroduction of the National Anthem is aimed at reawakening the spirit of patriotism and unity, also lauded the synergy enjoyed between the National Assembly and President Bola Tinubu.

The News Chronicle recalls that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the National Anthem Bill into law. Tinubu assented to the bill in an address to mark his one year in office at the National Assembly Complex Abuja on Wednesday 29th May.
