Reekado Banks speaks out on fight with MAVINS record

—

In the Nigerian music scene, departures from record labels often come with tales of irreconcilable differences. However, Reekado Banks breaks the mold, emphasizing that his exit from Mavin Records was on good terms.

During an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Reekado addressed the question of why he left Mavin Records. Contrary to speculation, he emphasized the amicable nature of his departure, citing the support and blessings of Don Jazzy, who he credits for lifting him from obscurity.

“The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave, and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” Reekado revealed, debunking assumptions of discord.

Reflecting on industry norms, Reekado noted the tradition of artists parting ways with their labels acrimoniously, which has influenced perceptions of his own exit from Mavin Records.

“I feel like it’s a tradition in the Nigerian record label business for artists to breakout angrily from their record labels, and this is being imposed on my relationship with Jazzy,” he commented.

Reekado expressed gratitude towards Don Jazzy, describing him as a blessing in his career journey.

While Reekado Banks’ departure from Mavin Records stands as a model of amicability, the industry has seen its share of bitter disputes between artists and labels. From Brymo’s legal battle with Chocolate City to Skales’ courtroom drama with Baseline and Runtown’s publicized feud with Eric Many, conflicts have been prevalent. The 2022 rift between Marlian Records and Mohbad also garnered attention, particularly following the demise of the street pop sensation.
