Red Cross Day: Anambra First Lady Advocates Compassion as Key to Building Resilient Society

—

As the 2026 Red Cross Day is marked globally today, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr (Mrs) Nonye Soludo, has urged residents of the State to embrace compassion and extend support to vulnerable people in society.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated annually on May 8th, to honour the dedication of staff and volunteers worldwide who provide neutral, impartial humanitarian aid to people affected by conflict, disasters, and health emergencies.

The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘United in Humanity.’

In a message marking the 2026 World Red Cross Day on Friday, Mrs. Soludo praised members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the global International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement for their dedication to humanitarian service.

She described compassion as a powerful tool for healing and unity, noting that collective efforts could help build a safer and more resilient society.

According to her, the Red Cross continues to play a vital role in disaster response, healthcare support, and humanitarian interventions across communities.

She called on citizens to show love, care, and support to people in need, stressing that unity and compassion remain essential for societal growth and stability.
