Los Blancos celebrated Cristiano Ronaldo after he reached 900 career goals last night during their Group A game in the Nations League, defeating Croatia 2-1.
Ronaldo scored the second goal after Dalot’s opener, with both goals coming before the second half.
Real Madrid congratulated their greatest player in history and assured him that he always has their support:
“Another historic feat: 900 goals in the professional career of one of the biggest legends in the history of Real Madrid and world football. Congratulations, dear and admired Cristiano Ronaldo! Real Madrid and the club’s fans are always proud of you.”
The 900 goals make Ronaldo the first-ever player to reach such a milestone, and 347 of these goals have come since turning 30—more than Didier Drogba, Thierry Henry, and Wayne Rooney managed throughout their entire careers.
In a post-match interview, the 39-year-old said he doesn’t break records; rather, records haunt him:
“900 goals seems like any other milestone, but only I know how hard it is to work every day to score your 900th goal. It’s a unique milestone in my career. I don’t break records… they haunt me!”
Recently, during the UEFA Champions League draw, Ronaldo was honored by tournament organizers with a prestigious award as the first player to score 140 goals since the tournament began.
A significant portion of Ronaldo’s 900 goals were scored in La Liga (311 goals) while representing Real Madrid, 103 in the Premier League, 81 in Serie A, and the rest in other tournaments in which he has participated.
