In this interview, Emmanuel Olarenwaju Owoniyi, a young CEO of Build-Up Services tells The News Chronicle about himself, the reason he founded the company and his advice to other young aspiring entrepreneurs.
Kindly tell us about your self
My Name is Arch. Emmanuel OlarenwajuOwoniyi. I am from Kogi State, Nigeria
What inspired you to start your business?
My Love for graphical sketches and to put a smile on people’s faces by designing and building houses for them.
Can you tell us about your business – what the company does, the challenges you face?
I am a self- employed, freelance architect. I run a company called Build-Up Services. I am into architectural planning, landscaping and interior design.
Presently the cost of building materials is expensive because of the depreciation in the value of the naira against major currencies like the dollar. It seems the government has no plans for architects. Also, the delay in the passing of the budget has stalled contracts.
What will you consider the achievements of your business so far?
Putting smile on people’s faces by designing and building houses for people and also being able to put food on the table for my family.
How do you think the government can encourage you?
The government should reduce the cost of importing building materials. It should also work hard to improve on the electricity situation in the country.
What will be your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?
First you need to have the passion and burning desire. It will be unwise to dabble into any business solely because you think there is money to be made there. You are most likely to be disappointed if you do not have the passion for the business.
