A High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has ordered the police to produce the incarcerated Leader of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, in court on Wednesday (today).

The presiding judge, Justice L. Nyorde, who gave the directive on Tuesday after the police failed to arraign the Majority Leader in the court, adjourned the matter to Wednesday (today) for the arraignment of Lloyd.

Lloyd’s lead counsel, Mr. Beluolisa Nwofor, (SAN), who accused the police of failing to produce his client in court, added that the police had breached the state High Court Practice Directory of 2013 “that insists on the impartial and speedy adjudication of matters.”

Nwafor, appealed to the court to direct the police to arraign the accused so that he could take a plea.

“The prosecution has a duty to ensure that the accused is in court. But they have breached the law. We fear for his health condition because he has been in detention for one week. I have not seen him for some time”, He added.

  1. Why are they refusing his trial before the court of law? An accused people has every right to be arraigned in court for fair hearing.

  2. Our Justice system in Nigeria leaves me wondering… People are littered in prisons without trial. What are the reasons for this ill-treatment unleashed on people

  3. We need to know what the outcome of the case will be in court, so the police should hasten his trial rather than his confinement in a police cell.

  4. Laws are not adhered to strictly in this country. If the law says bring him to court, then he should be brought to court. why the delay?
