As the global community celebrated Zero Discrimination Day, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has called on Nigerians to show love and respect for fellow citizens as a means of building a healthy nation.
Mrs Soludo made the call in a statement on Sunday, in which she admonished that making people feel valued was essential to nation-building.
Zero Discrimination Day is a global observance on March 1 every year, led by the United Nations.
It aims to deepen efforts to eradicate discrimination in all forms and promote social inclusion and tolerance.
The United Nations recognizes that discrimination is a human rights violation, commonly rooted in fear or misinformation and resistance to the unknown, and believes that creating awareness and dialogue on discrimination is a way to develop understanding and patience towards others.
In her message, Mrs Soludo said true love sees no differences but only hearts filled with compassion and a genuine desire to make others feel loved, valued, and respected.
Mrs. Soludo, the founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative, stated that respect is the soul of human dignity, adding that the diversity of various kinds is a beauty that must be appreciated.
She described discrimination, on the other hand, as a language of barbarism and hatred.
She urged people to always do their best to treat others with dignity, irrespective of their beliefs, class, creed, or physical condition.
According to her, respect for others is the only way to make society a better place for all to live.
