President Tinubu Meets North East Governors Over Road Projects, Oil Exploration

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, on Wednesday led other North East governors to a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The meeting focused on key issues affecting the region, including the urgent completion of 17 major road projects and the resumption of oil exploration in frontier wells such as Kolmani and Lake Chad.

Governors present were Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Gombe), Bala Muhammad (Bauchi), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), and Agbu Kefas (Taraba).

Speaking on behalf of the forum, Governor Zulum, who is also the chairman of the North East Governors Forum, urged President Tinubu to ensure the completion of critical road projects linking all six states of the zone.

Some of the roads include Kano–Maiduguri Road, Port Harcourt–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri Railway line, Bama Mubi, Yola Road, Wukari–Jalingo–Yola Road, Bauchi–Gombe–Biu–Damaturu Road, and Maiduguri–Monguno–Baga Road, among others.

According to report obtained by The News Chronicle, Governor Zulum commended the president for sustaining the fight against insurgency and fostering peace in the region.

He assured Tinubu of the governors’ support in manpower training, technology development, and agriculture to reduce insecurity and promote food security in line with the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

“We are committed to working with you to provide good governance and leave behind lasting legacies for the country,” Zulum said.

In response, President Tinubu welcomed their concerns and promised his administration’s commitment to the development of the North East.
