Presidency strives to stop PDP senators from defecting to the APC

The presidency in a rescue move has ratcheted up pressure on the leadership of the Senate to forestall the looming defection of aggrieved senators of the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

According to a source, the Senate President David Mark has been holding meetings with some of the angry senators in order to make them change their minds.

“Meetings are being held to prevent the PDP senators from going ahead with their planned action. I am sure the peace moves are yielding fruitful results,” the source said.

However, some of the senators who participated in the meetings say that they have made up their minds to move the APC. Hence, the attempt of the presidency to convince them to stay in the PDP using different wooing methods and threats is futile.

It is important to mention that thirty seven PDP members of the House of Representatives had earlier decamped to the APC citing the factions in their former party as their reason for leaving. The defectors have vowed not to return to the PDP.

If the PDP senators defect to the APC, it will be another unkind blow to the ruling party.
