You are not ready for what is about to come, it’s promises to be exciting!

As the highly anticipated sequel to Kunle Afolayan’s 2022 Netflix original film, “Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre” is set to debut on March 1, 2024, here’s a recap to bring you up to speed before diving into the new series.

The original film followed the story of Saro and his forbidden love affair with Arolake, who is married to the Alaafin of Oyo, Alaafin Ademuyiwa. Caught in the midst of their affair, Saro and Arolake attempt to escape from Oyo, only to face dire consequences.

Saro, portrayed by Kunle Remi, finds himself in possession of Akala’s gourd, granting him the power to raise the dead. However, his newfound wealth only fuels his greed, ultimately leading to his downfall.

At the film’s conclusion, Akala, angered by the loss of his gourd, seeks retribution, while Arolake decides to leave Saro behind, tired of his relentless pursuit of power and wealth.

Meanwhile, Alaafin Ademuyiwa continues his search for Arolake and Saro, seeking justice for their betrayal.

Saro meets his demise after failing to uphold his end of a bargain with the king, resulting in a violent confrontation with the villagers and ultimately, his encounter with Akala.

With tensions still high and unresolved conflicts looming, “Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre” promises to deliver an intense continuation of the story, exploring the repercussions of Saro’s actions and Arolake’s decisions in greater depth.
