The players from Nigeria’s national football team, known as the Super Eagles, received praise from the English Premier League. This happened because many of them play in the Premier League.Â
The praise came after the Super Eagles reached the final of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
They got to the final by defeating South Africa in the semi-final match on Wednesday.
During the game, William Troost-Ekong scored for Nigeria in the 65th minute from a penalty kick, which was won by Victor Osimhen.
Then, in the 90th minute, Mokoena scored for South Africa from a penalty kick, equalizing the score.
The match went into penalties, and Nigeria won 4-2 against South Africa at Stade Bouake in Ivory Coast, securing their place in the final against the host country.
The English Premier League expressed its admiration for Nigerian players who play in their league.
They specifically mentioned Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, and Ola Aina for their roles in Nigeria’s semi-final victory against South Africa.
Ola Aina plays as a defender for Nottingham Forest, Frank Onyeka plays as a defensive midfielder for Brentford, while Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey are players for Fulham.
The English Premier League highlighted these players’ contributions and celebrated Nigeria’s advancement to the AFCON final.
