Power Crisis Sparks Fresh Call for Tinubu’s Urgent Action

A prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has raised alarm over the deepening electricity crisis plaguing the nation.

Oyintiloye, a former legislator, lamented that the persistent power outage has become a heavy burden on citizens and is undermining the Federal Government’s ongoing reforms in the electricity sector. He made these remarks while addressing journalists on Sunday in Osogbo.

According to him, repeated promises and policy adjustments by authorities have failed to translate into improved power supply, leaving Nigerians grappling with worsening conditions.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to step in without delay to halt the growing hardship being experienced nationwide.

The APC stalwart highlighted that the unreliable power supply is crippling economic activities, affecting both small businesses and major industries, as well as households struggling to meet basic needs.

He further pointed out that the crisis is exacerbated by the current heatwave, making the absence of electricity for cooling systems increasingly unbearable for many families.

Oyintiloye also called for the establishment of a high-level investigative panel to unravel the root causes behind the recurring collapse of the national grid and the continued inefficiency in power delivery, despite substantial funding.

“It is a terrible situation across Nigeria, with persistent and worsening epileptic power supply.

“Many small-scale businesses and large industrial players are affected, while most homes cannot boast of even three hours of electricity supply daily for domestic use.

“Despite numerous reforms and promises, the national grid continues to collapse.

“The situation is compounded by gas supply shortages, weak transmission infrastructure, and chronic underinvestment across the power value chain. Nigerians are groaning,” he stated.

He also charged the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, alongside his team, to act swiftly in addressing the worsening situation.

“This epileptic power supply has led to a series of peaceful protests nationwide. I appeal for the President’s intervention before these protests turn violent.

“The situation must be quickly addressed before it becomes a national embarrassment.

“Nigerians need to be informed whether the issue is due to structural failure or sabotage within the power sector. Electricity is essential for households and the survival of businesses.

“Since the beginning of the year, there has been no stable power supply, despite assurances and huge investments in the sector.

“Poor power supply should not be added to the challenges Nigerians are currently facing. The high cost of fuel has also made it difficult for those relying on generators to cope,” he said.

While acknowledging the President’s reform drive across various sectors, Oyintiloye stressed the urgency of a comprehensive probe into the power sector to restore confidence and deliver lasting solutions.
