The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Yukiya Amano has expressed satisfaction on Nigeria’s plan to build a nuclear power plant to boost its electricity supply in the country.
President Muhammed Buhari yesterday welcomed the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for Nigeria’s aspiration to generate electricity through nuclear energy.
President Buhari was speaking at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday while receiving IAEA Director-General Mr. Yukiya Amano.
The president, who said he was happy that the agency was developing a programme from which Nigeria would benefit, charged the agency to do more to support the nation.
Power Minister Babatunde Fashola said the country would in the coming years start a programme that would guarantee 1,000 megawatts of electricity in the first instance; to be increased to 4,000 megawatts later. Earlier, Amano had said he was pleased to see Nigeria take correct measures towards a safe usage of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
