Politics isn’t a bed of roses

There are many professions in the world that require courage, bravery, uncommon self-belief, and hope of making it.

For me, none requires courage like politics. It represents the most difficult, if not the hardest, way of making it in life.

I’ve never envied politicians. But many times, I’ve acknowledged their courage and faith.

At any given time, only one person is elected, yet many have invested years of emotion, time, and effort in the same position. They respond to people daily, build goodwill, and make sacrifices in service.

They are transformed from private citizens into public figures who must be sensitive to optics, public judgment, and validation.

One thing I admire about politicians is their courage to pursue ambition despite their flaws, and even when they may not seem the most qualified by our standards of perfection.

And when you consider the cost of nomination forms for positions that aren’t guaranteed and can evaporate in seconds, it reveals a different kind of courage.

The truth is, politics comes with more losses than wins, even in a society where politicians’ service is sought almost every minute. Yet, the fear of that life and its burdens often pales in comparison to the potential gains for those bold enough to take the risk where many are afraid.

Maybe it’s time for many critics to step forward, if they dare.
