The Benue State Police Command revealed that they discovered a center in Makurdi where people were being trained in internet fraud, commonly known as ‘yahoo yahoo, on Tuesday.
Along with this discovery, they also arrested 31 individuals suspected of various criminal activities in the state.
“During a crackdown operation, the police apprehended suspects involved in internet fraud, robbery, cultism, and kidnapping.”
“The training center was uncovered following intelligence about fraudulent activities in a specific area of Makurdi.”
“Two suspects, Terpase Denmodi and Avalumun Ayangekaa, were arrested at the location. “
“Items seized included laptops, a printer, currency, passports, and clothing. The suspects confessed to targeting foreigners and revealed they trained others in fraudulent activities.”
Additionally, eight suspected internet fraudsters were arrested at a Makurdi hotel, and three members of a kidnapping gang operating in Makurdi were also apprehended.
Another operation led to the bust of a kidnapping gang on the Makurdi-Naka road. One suspect, Mohammed Ibrahim, was arrested, while others fled.
The gang had blocked the road, robbed motorbike operators, and kidnapped a victim, demanding a ransom of N2 million.
Various items such as laptops, motorbikes, weapons, ATM cards, and phones were recovered from the 31 suspects.
The Police Commissioner urged the public to provide information to help combat crime in the state and assured ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the State.
