Police set up a complaint response unit in Borno

—

The Borno State Police Command has set up a Complaint Response Unit (CRU) for people to report if they think a police officer did something wrong.

This was announced in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Nahum Daso Kenneth, and shared with reporters in Maiduguri.

The statement explained that the unit was created to follow the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) instruction to stop corruption, extortion, and human rights abuse in the police force.

It said the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, has opened a Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the State Headquarters in Maiduguri. This is to make people trust the police more and to make sure they are accountable.

The Complaint Response Unit (CRU) is a part of the Nigeria Police Force that listens to complaints about police officers’ bad behavior, like breaking rules or treating people unfairly. It’s meant to make sure that police officers are responsible for what they do.

The statement also gave out contact details for the public to report any misconduct by police officers to the CRU: O8108637500, 09129340466.

They can also reach out through Twitter @Bornopolicec and Facebook: @Bornopolice. People are encouraged to share all the information they have about what happened and any proof they might have.
